For OIR cases, the DDIR may request review by an advisory Panel, for actions involving epidemiology/biometry, clinical research, or computer science, as appropriate.

Investigators (Tenure-track), Staff Scientists, and Staff Clinicians may also be appointed in the Commissioned Corps with approval by the DDIR.

Title 5 may be approved via special exception by the DDIR. Normally a full Search Committee process will be required.
