Adjunct Investigator

An Adjunct Investigator is a scientist who works full-time or part-time in an intramural setting, whose primary career appointment is elsewhere (e.g., medical school, university faculty, or at NIH outside of an IC's intramural program). An Adjunct Investigator may possibly be assigned independent resources, which are subject to review by the BSC.

An Adjunct Investigator usually has more than 8 years of post-doctoral experience, and may be classified under the Volunteer Authority (link) when he or she is not paid by NIH but still provides a service for NIH. [SD Minutes 11-05-86.6.]
